What we do
BAOM is a female founded, South African biotech start-up that is developing bioganic (bio-engineered materials from organic ingredients) flexible sheeting films.
We offer an innovative solution to plastic pollution, low tree-transplant survival rates, and degraded soils. Our 100% home-compostable biofilms, made from cellulose-based materials, outperform other plastic alternatives in strength, containment, safety, GHG emissions and composability.
We integrate organic food-industry waste into a circular-style economy from the start to the end of our products' life-cycles to ensure soil rehabilitation — aligning with SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) .
With our ROOT-WRAP biofilms, we aim to increase tree-transplant survival rates (from the usual 30% to an ambitious 90%) for food producing and land restoring planting projects.
BAOM's disruptive technology drives environmental rehabilitation through our economic growth business model, creating jobs in localised hubs as opposed to a centralised system.
The strong market demand in multiple sectors — land restoration, agriculture and packaging — validates our potential for widespread impact.
